Direct-conversion receivers (Rxs) are highly integrated and capable of mult
iband and multistandard operation. They also have the potential for low pow
er consumption. So it is not surprising that the introduction of direct-con
version Rx chip sets for the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM)
market(1) has sparked an immense interest in the GSM industry. But suppress
ing the spurious detection of interfering amplitude-modulated (AM) signals
is a major problem in direct-conversion Rx design.
