The rapid progress of the Internet has increased the needs for the VoIP (Vo
ice over IF) technology that uses an IP network to send voice. As the voice
communication data requires high real-time performance, however it is vuln
erable to the effects unique to the IP network. Therefore, various deterior
ating factors must be clarified and removed to maintain voice quality that
is comparable to that of the conventional telephone. This paper discusses t
he evaluation methodology and verification results of voice quality of VoIP
on a carrier class network that can serve as the next-generation communica
tion infrastructure.
