Jx. Wen et al., Performance comparison of a buoyancy-modified turbulence model with three LRN turbulence models for a square cavity, NUM HEAT B, 39(3), 2001, pp. 257-276
A buoyancy-modified four-equation turbulence model is applied to predict an
air-filled square cavity, along with the low-Reynolds-number turbulence mo
del of Ince and Launder (IL), and the three- and four-equation models of Ha
njalic (H3E and H4E). The predictions of the different models are compared
with one another and with some published experimental data. The results dem
onstrate that the present model can capture both the mean and fluctuating t
urbulent quantities in this elementary type of flows more accurately than t
he other three models. Its predictions for the local Nusselt numbers are al
so in better agreement with the data. Among the other three models, it is f
ound that the predictions of the H4E model are generally in better agreemen
t with the data than the IL and H3E models.
