Abstract
The thermally activated transition from a 2D CdSe layer grown on ZnSe by MB E to a quantum dot assemblage is studied by in situ RHEED and UHV-AFM. The observed morphologies are a result of the interference of competitive proce sses. Both surface states, 2 and 3D, can he obtained and stabilized under t he same conditions.
