Db. Romero et al., Competition of charge, orbital, and ferromagnetic correlations in layered manganites - art. no. 132404, PHYS REV B, 6313(13), 2001, pp. 2404
The competition of charge, orbital, and ferromagnetic interactions in layer
ed manganites is investigated by magneto-Raman scattering spectroscopy. We
find that the colossal magnetoresistance effect in the layered compounds re
sults from the interplay of orbital and ferromagnetic double exchange corre
lations. inelastic scattering by charge-order fluctuations dominates the qu
asiparticle dynamics in the ferromagnetic-metal state. It is suppressed at
low frequencies, consistent with the opening of a charge-density wave pseud
ogap.
