S. Zaefferer et al., A study on the formation mechanisms of the cube recrystallization texture in cold rolled Fe-36%Ni alloys, ACT MATER, 49(6), 2001, pp. 1105-1122
The formation of sharp cube recrystallization texture after high cold rolli
ng reductions in Fe-36%Ni has been studied by means of X-tay texture measur
ements and extensive transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations, i
ncluding orientation measurements even in highly deformed materials. In con
trast to Cu and Al, this material shows only little recovery during cold de
formation; therefore, the deformation structure can be studied in detail. A
fter high cold rolling the cube grains present at the hut rolled state show
the formation of cells and tile development or a large orientation gradien
t inside cube bands. During recrystallisation nucleation of cube grains pro
ceeds at a high rate inside these structures. For low deformations cube gra
in nucleation seems to be inhibited due to the insufficient orientation gra
dient across the cells. Regions of other orientations; show a much lower nu
cleation rate owing to their inappropriate microstructure. Thus, other recr
ystallization textures only develop if the cube nucleation is inhibited. (C
