Canine uveodermatologic syndrome, an immune-mediated reaction to melanin-co
ntaining cells, is manifested by granulomatous uveitis and depigmenting der
matitis. A young Akita was presented with chronic bilateral panuveitis and
cutaneous depigmentation, affecting principally the face and genitalia. Ski
n histopathology showed a lichenoid interface and perivascular and periadne
xal dermatitis. Systemic immunosuppressive and topical eye treatment result
ed in partial amelioration of both the ocular and cutaneous signs. However,
response to the initial treatment was less satisfactory when the disease r
elapsed. Maintenance therapy with oral azathioprine, prednisone and topical
0.1% diclofenac sodium drops was instituted in an attempt to prevent visio
n loss.
