As a continuation of our earlier research, the paper reports progress in th
e study on improvement of 3-chloro-4-(dichloromethyl)-5-hydroxy-2(5H)-furan
one (MX) determination in water. In particular, the effect achieved as resu
lts of modification of MX with butyl alcohols (n-butanol, isobutanol, sec-b
utanol and tert-butanol) is reported. Sec-butanol derivatization permits se
paration of MX enantiomers in the form of diastereoisomers, Isobutanol deri
vatization leads to formation of sextet of fragmentation ions of high abund
ance, which can improve identification of MX in environmental samples.
