Abstract
Reaction of hyaluronan (HA) with 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiim ide (EDC) yielded a water-soluble polysaccharide with 40 % of modified HA c arboxyl groups. H-1 and C-13 NMR measurements revealed that hyaluronan cont ained EDC bound by a nonspecific acylurea-type linkage. A test with testicu lar hyaluronidase showed that the modified hyyaluronan was resistant to enz ymic degradation.
