The new method of local electric current density assignment in the Particle
-in-Cell code in Cartesian geometry is presented. The method is valid for a
n arbitrary quasi-particle form-factor assuming that quasi-particle traject
ory over time step is a straight line. The method allows one to implement t
he PIC code without solving Poisson equation. The presented formula for the
current density associated with the motion of a single quasi-particle is t
he unique linear combination of form-factor differences in consistency with
the discrete continuity equation. The computation scheme is demonstrated i
n 20D and 3D. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
