Abstract
The aim of the European Union to guarantee the highest standard of food saf ety shall be realized by passing 80 additional regulations within the next two years. The obligation to quantitatively declare either name giving or a ssessing ingredients has already been implemented. The labelling of allerge ns shall be pushed ahead, the 25%-regulation for compound ingredients with denomination shall be cancelled. Furthermore the labelling of the country o f origin is under discussion. The relevant labelling regulation in Switzerl and could serve as specimen. As far as genetic labelling comes up for discu ssion, both manufacturing process and indication of origin could be regarde d as to provoke the labelling requirement. The discussion about health clai ms is controversial; CIAA has submitted a coder for the use of health claim s. The amendment of the contaminants regulation is still under discussion. Finally, the European Commission has introduced a proposal for a framework legislation for food law on European level.
