Ty. Byun et Kj. Han, A multicasting scheme using multiple MCS for reducing end-to-end path delay in ATM networks, IEICE TR CO, E84B(4), 2001, pp. 1020-1029
In this paper, we proposed two models, the full multiple MCS (Multicast Ser
ver) model and the hybrid multiple MCS model to support multiple R ICS over
a single large cluster in ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) networks. Also,
we presented two methods for R ICS assignment which are known as 2PSPMT (2
Phase Shortest Path based on Multicast tree) and hybrid-2PSPMT, and evalua
ted its performance by simulation. When an ATR I host requests joining a sp
ecific multicast group, the MARS (Multicast Address Resolution Server) desi
gnates a proper R ICS among the multiple MCSs for the group member to minim
ize the average path delay between the sender and the group members. Each m
ethod for MCS assignment construct a a-phase partial multicast tree based o
n the shortest path algorithm. We reduced the average path delay in tile mu
lticast tree using these methods with various cluster topologies and MCS di
stribution scenarios in addition to distributing the load among multiple MC
Ss.
