Abstract
Lantern-type Ru-2(OAc)(4)Cl reacts with pySH with complete substitution of the acetate ligands and oxidation to give a bioctahedral dimer [Ru-2(mu -py S)(3)(pyS)(2)](CF3SO3) (1). (Ru-Ru 2.693 Angstrom) - the first Ru(III) comp lex of 2-mercaptopyridine. One-electron oxidation and reduction states of t he dimer are also electrochemically accessible. The similarity in the behav iour of 2-mercaptopyridine and dithiocarbamates as ligands to Ru(III) is al so addressed. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
