Abstract
This paper demonstrates the development of a Java-based application that ca n be used for information exchange by a variety of market participants, suc h as generators, brokers, market operators, and network owners. For an illu stration, a SCADA Laboratory Applications Program (SLAP) has been implement ed. Java Graphical User Interface (GUT), Object Management Group's Common O bject Request Broker Architecture (OMG's CORBA) and multi-tiered Client/Ser ver Architecture are some of the software technologies used. A three-phase design approach, which ensures a high probability of success for developing the Java-based application for data access via Intranet, Extranet and Inte rnet, is also presented. Based on this Java-based application, an open geog raphical distributed environment where power system data can be shared reus ed and accessed from anywhere can be created at a much reduced cost.
