For the general case of two interacting structures the computational effort
of the adapting radiating boundaries (ARB) method is compared with the com
putational effort of the pure space discretizing transmission line matrix m
ethod. Since the numerical field modelling with the ARB method requires a v
ery low computational effort, this method can be applied in a process for t
he automatical optimization of planar structures to prevent electromagnetic
coupling phenomena. Numerical aspects of the method of ARB are shown. In t
wo numerical examples, the ARB method is applied to the numerical modelling
of the electromagnetic coupling between planar microwave structures. Copyr
