Abstract
Dinuclear copper(II) (1) and zinc(II) (2) macrocyclic complexes were synthe sized by the cyolocondensation between sodium 2,6-diformyl-4-chlorophenolat e and 1,3-diaminopropane and the subsequent transmetallation with metal sal ts, and spectroscopically characterized. The crystal structures of both com pounds were studied by X-ray diffraction techniques. In each complex. two m etal atoms are located in the tetraimine macrocyclic hole with two coordina ting water molecules above and below the ring. The coordination geometry ar ound each metal can be considered as a distorted square pyramidal. Two-dime nsional networks are found formed by both intermolecular and intramolecular H-bonding interactions in the crystals of 1 and 2. (C) 2001 Elsevier Scien ce B.V. All rights reserved.
