Structural and phase composition of the Ni3Al intermetallic compound sample
s are investigated using electrical resistance measurement during a long ti
me annealing at 773 degreesC in argon atmosphere. The initial and final sta
te is studied by SEM, TEM and EDAX. Isothermal measurement of electrical re
sistance during tile annealing indicates two stages of oxide formation. Exc
hange of the argon atmosphere for the hydrogen one causes a jump of electri
cal resistance explained by interaction of the oxide with hydrogen. Study o
f the structure shows that two types of Al2O3 are formed: hexagonal beta -A
l2O3 and trigonal delta -Al2O3.
