Abstract
Recurrent uveitis is one of the most frequent ophthalmologic changes of hor ses, In spite of this, many times it is difficult for the practising veteri narians to diagnose and differentiate from other changes, especially from k eratitis, The authors review the scientific literature concerning the patho physiology and etiology of equine recurrent uveitis (iridocyclochorioiditis ). On the basis of scientific Literature it can be stated that the etiology is not absolutely clear. The original statement of BERRAR and MANNINGER th at in the development of the clinical picture leptospiras have a major role was supported by later research, The authors give full details with the mention of data of literature of the acute and chronic, remaining clinical signs of the disease. Clinical signs are illustrated with photos of own cases. They detail the examination of h orses suffering from recurrent uveitis, the conduction anaesthesia making e asier the examination and the applicable examination methods. They consider ultrasonic examination as an important complementary examination method. R ecurrent uveitis is a severe change, threatening the vision, requiring an u rgent, pressing intervention and demanding intensive therapy. In connection with the treatment they present the medicines and methods of treatment use d by them effectively, presenting also a modern surgical intervention showi ng promise and used routinely also by them, the vitrectomy. They finish wit h the presentation of the prognosis and the legal and sale and purchase asp ects of the remaining signs. As the popular,,moon blindness" expression doe s not suggest an exact diagnosis they recommend the use of the exact and co rrect technical term, equine recurrent serous; plastic; haemorrhagic iridoc yclochorioiditis in the ophthalmologic certificates.
