S. Mukerji et T. Kar, Microhardness study of the nonlinear optical crystal L-arginine hydrochloride monohydrate, MET MAT T A, 31(12), 2000, pp. 3087-3090
The results of measurement of the Vickers microhardness (H-v) of the (100),
(010), and (001) faces of the nonlinear optical (NLO) crystal L-arginine h
ydrochloride monohydrate (LAHCI) have been reported. It was observed that t
he microhardnesses of the three crystal planes decrease with the increase o
f applied load, and the hardness profile is different for different planes.
The proportional specimen-resistance (PSR) model of Li and Bradt is used t
o explain the microhardness behavior of LAHC1. The indentation work-hardeni
ng coefficients (n) for three planes were found to be greater than 1.8, and
this indicates that LAHCI is a soft crystal.
