Pjs. De-souza et Ga. Coovert, Revision of the recent Bullata Jousseaume, 1875 (Gastropoda : Marginellidae) with the description of two new species, NAUTILUS, 115(1), 2001, pp. 1-14
The genus Bullata Jousseaume, 1875 is revised based on conchological charac
ters. All known living species are endemic to Brazil. Two new species are h
erein described, B, guerrinii and B. analuciae. Bullata guerrinii is most s
imilar to B. largillieri (Kiener, 1841) as both have an enlarged second col
umellar plication which overrides and fuses with the first, but differs in
having a darker coloration, wider aperture, and spire only slightly apparen
t. Bullata analuciae has similar color pattern to B. largillieri, but diffe
rs in having clearly separate first and second columellar plications, a gen
erally larger, thinner shell, a broad aperture and non-denticulated lip. Th
e other 4 known species are described and discussed and a key for identific
ation is presented. A cladistic analysis of Bullata was made using 22 conch
ological characters (53 states). The single most parsimonious tree obtained
(length 37, CI = 81, RI = 69) is as follows: (B, bullata (B. analuciae ((B
. largillieri, B. guerrinii) (B. lilacina, B. matthewsi)))). The monophyly
of the genus is supported bp 8 synapomorphies.
