Abstract
Ten species of a terrestrial mammal fauna are described from a marginal mar ine outcrop of the Bohlen-Formation (Rupelium) in the open-cast mine Espenh ain near Leipzig. The fauna originates from the allochthonous "Phosphoritkn ollenhorizont", a tempestite which is interpreted as a parasequence boundar y of the cycles TA 4.5.1 and TA4.5.2 (HAQ et al. 1987). The biostratigraphi cal mammal zone MP 22 is proven particularly by Entelodon deguilhemi REPELI N 1918. The ecology of the ungulates and the macroflora characterize the co untryside as a dense forest with Pinus, Lauracea and palms and with a ripar ian vegetation along the rivers.
