Abstract
give a sketch of my recent attempt to test the prediction by Leutwyler and Smilga according to which, for QCD in a finite box with N-f greater than or equal to 2, the combination x = V Sigmam indicates whether the net topolog ical charge of the gauge background proves relevant (x much less than 1) or irrelevant (x much greater than 1) for physical observables.
