Abstract
We report on an experimental observation of the qualitative signatures of s ymmetry-induced quantum-interference effects in above-threshold-ionization spectra of O-2 (antibonding pi (g) symmetry) and N-2 (bonding sigma (g) sym metry). It confirms the corresponding predictions of intense-field S-matrix theory.
