J. Ovesna et al., Variability of storage proteins in some Czech landraces, modern and obsolete cultivars of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), ROSTLIN VYR, 47(2), 2001, pp. 82-90
A set of Czech landraces and obsolete cultivars was evaluated with respect
to the allelic variations at Cli-l, Glu-l and Glu-3 loci. PCR based techniq
ue was used for LMW-GSs evaluation. The method was proved to be suitable fo
r study of wheat germplasm with respect to LMW-GSs allelomorphism. A higher
diversity was found in the landraces and obsolete cultivars as compared wi
th modern ones. Especially short amplification products corresponding to LM
W-GSs with shorter central repetitive domains are missing in modern cultiva
rs. Landraces and obsolete cultivars originating in the Czech Republic were
proved to be a source of important variability with respect to LMW-GSs and
could be used as a source of alternative alleles. Gliadin and HMW-GS allel
omorphism evaluated on the protein level were similar to those found in com
parable sets of wheat genotypes. No significant relationships were discover
ed between gliadins and LMW-GS patterns based on clustering, even when Gli-
l and Glu-3 loci are localised close to each other on the same chromosome a
rms.
