Abstract
Different procedures for preparing the copper(II) complex with 1-hydroxyeth ane-1,1-diphosphonic acid (H4L) of the composition (NH4)(2)Cu(H2L)(2) . 2H( 2)O are discussed. Procedures for preparing a single-phase material are pro posed. The compound is water-soluble (0.133+/-0.001 M; 6.80 g/100 g water a t 25 degreesC) and dispropprtionates in aqueous solutions by the following schemes 3(NH4)(2)Cu(H2L)(2) + 4H(2)O reversible arrow (NH4)(2)Cu3L2 . 4H(2) O down arrow + 4NH(4)(H3L) (c similar to0.1 M) and 3 (NH4)(2)Cu(H2L)(2) + 1 0H(2)O reversible arrow Cu2L . 10H(2)O down arrow + 2(NH4)(2)H2L + NH4(H3L) + NH4CuH5L2 (c similar to0.01 M).
