Abstract
Base induced S-demethylation of dimethyl alpha -oxoketenedithioacetals with dimsyl sodium gave methyl beta -oxodithiocarboxylates in good yields while cyclic ketenedithioacetals having a 1,3-dithiolane moiety underwent a frag mentation reaction leading to vinyl beta -oxodithiocarboxylates.
