Abstract
Power in organizations is a fluid social construction subject to multiple i nterpretations. The extensive literature on power provides insights about t he antecedents and consequences of power at the individual and group levels but does not provide a model. tracing the linkages between them and descri bing how power develops and is transferred between individuals and groups. In this article we describe some of the conditions necessary for power iden tities and reputations to develop and transfer effectively between individu als and groups in organizations.
