F. Duteille et al., A comparison between clinical results and electromyographic analysis aftermedian or ulnar nerve injuries in children's wrists, ANN PL SURG, 46(4), 2001, pp. 382-386
The purpose of this study was to analyze the results of median or ulnar ner
ve transections to the wrist in 14 children between 1994 and 1999. On susta
ining their injury, all patients underwent treatment at the University Hosp
ital of Nancy. They were all seen afterward for clinical and electromyograp
hic evaluations. The clinical examination was mainly to judge the quality o
f sensory recovery, using the Weber and Dellon tests, as well as motor reco
very. Electromyographic examination of the motor and sensory tissues was ca
rried out systematically on each patient. The analysis of these results hig
hlights discordance between the quality of the clinical results and nerve r
egrowth identified via electromyography, Good nerve regrowth does not neces
sarily mean a good sensory recovery.
