Abstract
Palladium and platinum supported on NaOH- and H2SO4-impregnated gamma -Al2O 3 and ZrO2 catalysts were studied for oxidation of carbon monoxide and hydr ocarbons. These catalysts were characterized by an indicator method, BET su rface area and CO chemisorption. Activities of these catalysts for CO, C3H6 . and C3H8 oxidation were performed under the stoichiometric condition. Thi s study investigated the effects of acid-base properties of supports on the catalysts for oxidation of CO and hydrocarbons. The experimental results revealed that the catalytic activity was dependent on the acid-base property of the catalyst. The catalytic activity for CO a nd C3H6 oxidation was increased by increasing the basic strength of the cat alyst. On the other hand, increasing the acidic strength of the catalyst lo wered the light-off temperature of the catalyst for C3H8 oxidation. (C) 200 1 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
