Abstract
The physicochemical attributes of 66 coastal dune lakes (lagoons) on island s of Bass Strait have been investigated. The full data set is available ele ctronically. Here, selected environmental variables with known ecological s ignificance are presented and, by reference to known sites of floristic ric hness in Tasmania, the lagoons most likely to harbour endemic freshwater al gae are identified, as biogeographical stepping stones between the Tasmania n and mainland Australian microfloras.
