Abstract
We studied the effect of stobadine, a pyridoindole antioxidant agent, on su peroxide anion (O-2(.-)) generation (respiratory burst) and enzyme (lysozym e and myeloperoxidase) release from FMLP (a specific receptor activator) an d from PMA (activator of protein kinase C) stimulated human polymorphonucle ar leukocytes (PMNL). Stabadine (1, 10 and 100 muM) decreased O-2(.-) gener ation ill FMLP stimulated PMNL only. It had no significant effect on enzyme release. The stobadine effect on O-2(.-) generation seems to be linked to signal transduction rather than to its free radical scavenging and antioxid ant properties since there v;as no effect on O-2(.-) generation in PMA stim ulated PMNL.
