Abstract
Acute renal failure is a common clinical problem in the intensive care unit (ICU) and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. There is no "magic bullet" to prevent acute renal failure or to modify the clinical course of established renal failure. The approach to therapy is directed t o the early initiation of dialysis therapy. Continuous dialysis therapy is becoming the preferred form of dialysis in the ICU.
