New Internet tools to manage geological and geophysical data

Data access within the framework of a scientific program such as GeoFrance 3D is of primary importance scientists must be able to download, store and retrieve data using only an Internet connection and a browser on their comp uter. Here we describe the data model developed for this purpose, along wit h the architecture and classes of the system designed using Java technologi es. We then illustrate the uses of the system, currently accessible at the URL address http://gf3d.brgm.fr:8000, using data from the GeoFrance 3D Armo r project. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd.
