Abstract
Nucleoid proteins are a group of abundant DNA binding proteins that modulat e the structure of the bacterial chromosome. They have been recruited as sp ecific negative and positive regulators of gene transcription and their flu ctuating patterns of expression are often exploited to impart an additional level of control with respect to environmental conditions.
