Abstract
Bi- and multivariate analyses of seven skull measurements of 101 small blin d moles from south-east Europe, Asia Minor and Iran confirmed the existence of two distinct species: T. caeca (western Balkans) and T. levantis (Turki sh Thrace, Asia Minor, Mazanderan). The maxillary tooth-row is relatively s horter in the former. Moles from three localities in northwest Asia Minor ( Uludag in particular) corresponded to T. caeca in size-in and size-out Disc riminant Function Analyses. Hardly any interlocality variation was detected in T. levantis across a significant part of its range.
