Bilateral simultaneous retinal arteriolar obstruction in a child with hemoglobin SS sickle cell disease

Acute bilateral retinal vascular occlusions secondary to sickle cell-thalas semia hemoglobinopathies are decidedly rare in children. We present: a case of a child who presented with simultaneous bilateral branch artery occlusi ons, which led to infarction of both maculae. Transcranial Doppler ultrason ography (TCD) studies were not helpful in predicting this event.
