Formation and magnetic properties of the Nd3Fe29-xTix (x=1.3-2.0) compounds
have been investigated. The X-ray diffraction patterns and the thermomagne
tic analysis show that all compounds investigated, with x=1.3-2.0, are almo
st single phase and crystallize in monoclinic symmetry with space group A(2
/m). The unit-cell volume monotonously increases slightly with increasing T
i content. A spin reorientation transition from easy plane (perpendicular t
o the [204] direction) at room temperature to an easy cone at low temperatu
re occurs for all compounds. The spin reorientation temperature T-sr and th
e Curie temperature T-C are almost independent of Ti content. A tentative s
pin phase diagram was constructed for the Nd3Fe29-xTix (x=1.3-2.0) compound
s. Tt is noteworthy that the saturation magnetization M-s at 1.5 K decrease
s clearly with increasing Ti element, the stabilizing element Ti not only l
eading to a dilution of the Fe sublattice, but also resulting in a decrease
of the Fe atomic moment. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
