The phase equilibria in the ternary system Ce-Au-Sn have been established i
n an isothermal section at 750 degreesC. Experimental techniques used were
optical microscopy, EPMA and X-ray powder analysis of arc-melted samples wh
ich were annealed at 750 degreesC for 10 days and quenched to room temperat
ure. Phase equilibria are characterized by the formation of seven ternary p
hases, of which only the equiatomic compound CeAuSn (CaIn2-type) was alread
y reported. Their crystal structures and physical properties were investiga
ted and are presented. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
