The hypothesis that happy and unhappy people have different personalit
y profiles based on five personality factors (Neuroticism, Extraversio
n, Openness, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness) was tested using 24
5 undergraduates (111 men and 134 women) who completed the Satisfactio
n with Life Scale and the NEO Personality Inventory. Analysis indicate
d that High and Lour Satisfaction groups had significantly different p
ersonality profiles, supporting the hypothesis.
