Oxygenated cholesterol derivatives have been separated on silica gel and si
lanized silica gel TLC plates in an SDII horizontal chamber. Spots were vis
ualized under UV light after reaction with different specific reagents for
cholesterol and its derivatives. Cholesterol derivatives were also silanize
d and analyzed by planar chromatography and the results were compared with
those obtained by GC-MS. Cholesterol derivatives were also quantified by de
nsitometry after isolation of the cholesterol derivatives fraction from ser
um samples by solid-phase extraction.
