Abstract
CdS nanocrystals have been prepared by a sonochemical reduction of a mixed solution of CdCl2, Na2S2O3 and (CH3)(2)CHOH in Ar atmosphere at room temper ature. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission e lectron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectrum. It was found that the CdS nanocrystal is in beta -CdS structure with an average size of about 5.5 nm in diameter, and the size distribution is very narrow. The chemical mec hanism for the formation of CdS nanocrystals is discussed. (C) 2001 Elsevie r Science B.V. Ah rights reserved.
