A. Bertin et al., CHANGES IN THE ANNIHILATION DELAY-TIME DISTRIBUTION OF STOPPED ANTIPROTONS IN HELIUM GAS, DUE TO CONTAMINANTS .2., Nuovo cimento della Società Italiana di Fisica. A. Nuclei, particles and fields, 110(4), 1997, pp. 419-428
A different type of analysis was performed to study the effect of cont
aminants on the temporal distribution of delayed annihilations of anti
protons stopped in helium gas, with respect to some first results publ
ished in ABLEEV et. al. (Nuovo Cimento A, 107 (1994) 1325). A more obj
ective criterion was established to single out a slow part in the tota
l delayed component, in order to deduce from this, for each case, the
mean value of the product (<(upsilon sigma)over bar>)(c,l) of the quen
ching cross-section and the mean velocity of contaminant molecules, an
d the fraction of the slow component eta(c,l). The fraction eta(c,l) w
as found to be amazingly stable for each impurity, independent of the
concentration: around 79% of the total delayed component for all the a
tomic impurities (Ar, Ne, Xe) and 64% for the molecular ones (H-2, N-2
).
