Abstract
A new species of deep-water triacanthodid spikefish from the MacClesfi eld Bank in the South China Sea between the Philippines and Vietnam is described in the subfamily Triacanthodinae as Paratriacanthodes abei. It differs from the other two species of that western Pacific and Ind ian Ocean genus in several meristic and proportional characteristics a nd in coloration.
