Gr. Graves, DIAGNOSES OF HYBRID HUMMINGBIRDS (AVES, TROCHILIDAE) .3. PARENTAGE OFLESBIA-ORTONI LAWRENCE, Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington, 110(2), 1997, pp. 314-319
Lesbia ortoni Lawrence, 1869, collected in the Quite Valley, Ecuador,
is shown to be a hybrid between Lesbia victoriae and Ramphomicron micr
orhynchum, sympatric inhabitants of Andean forest edge and shrublands
from Colombia to Peru. The hybrid exhibits a blended mosaic of plumage
characters of the parental species. Although the parental species dif
fer significantly in size, the external measurements of the hybrid app
roximate those predicted by least squares regression.
