We measured the spin observables A(y), P, and S-NN' for the Pb-208(p,n
)Bi-208 reaction at 135 MeV at laboratory angles of 0 degrees, 3 degre
es, 6 degrees, and 9 degrees. The overall energy resolution was about
1 MeV. Data for S-NN' are compared with distorted-wave impulse-approxi
mation calculations that use random-phase approximation wave functions
. Comparisons are also made for the Ca-48(p,n)Sc-48 reaction. The agre
ement between these calculations and the data is generally good, after
adjustment of the nucleon-nucleon interaction in the random-phase app
roximation calculations to place the 0(+) isobaric-analog states at th
e correct excitation energies. A single adjustment of the nucleon-nucl
eon force works for both target nuclei.
