Abstract
Precision fabrication of spherical lenses is increasingly required accordin g to the latest application for compact and high-resolution video recording system The authors propose the efficient and precision grinding of spheric al lenses with cup-type wheels and ELID system. The experimental set-up was prepared using a tilted rotary table and cast iron bonded ring tools with ELID system. The effect of ELID on the surface finish and the stability of curve generation process were investigated. The spherical accuracy and surf ace finish of mirror-like quality of ELID ground lenses were evaluated and by using a very small cup wheel, and the successful grinding operation of p hi 1mm lens was confirmed on the devised system.
