Ms. Grigoriev et al., Study of the interaction of Pu(IV) and Np(IV, V, VI) with Fe hydroxides topredict the behavior of actinides in environmental media, RADIOCH ACT, 89(2), 2001, pp. 95-100
A Mossbauer effect method was used to study the formation of mixed hydroxid
es in the alkaline coprecipitation of Pu(IV) or ND(IV) with Fe(III). The Mo
ssbauer spectra of mixed Pu-239(IV)-Fe(III) and Np-237(IV)-Fe(III) hydroxid
e samples differ from that of pure alpha -FeO(OH) formed in aqueous basic s
olutions. Alkaline coprecipitation of Np(V) or Np(VI) with Fe(III) hydroxid
es does not produce the mixed hydroxides shown by Pu(IV) or Np(IV) with Fe(
III). The general Mossbauer spectral parameters of the Np(V), (VI)-Fe(III)
hydroxides are similar to those of pure alpha -FeO(OH).
