This article provides a focussed overview of unusual musculoskeletal infect
ions, specifically the fungi, viruses, and parasites that are associated wi
th bone, joint, and muscle pathology. The common radiologic-pathologic proc
esses of musculoskeletal infections are described and correlated with gamut
s of these unusual infective agents. Each class of agents is then discussed
with respect to specific infective agents and their epidemiologic, clinica
l, and radiologic characteristics.
