Gv. Slavinskaya et Vf. Selemenev, The density and relative compression of water in solutions of alkali metalchlorides, RUSS J PH C, 75(4), 2001, pp. 572-575
The density of water calculated by the Zdanovskii method (rho (H2O)), which
, according to Zdanovskii, is the density of water in external hydration sh
eaths of electrolyte ions, was found to be virtually the same for alkali me
tal chlorides except LiCl at their equal concentrations (c(e)). The rho (H2
O) value increased as c, grew and decreased when the temperature of solutio
ns rose. The results of calculations were at variance with hydration laws.
The observed dependences were explained on the assumption that the calculat
ed P-H2O values characterized the mean density of water in solution rather
than in external hydration sheaths of ions.
