M. Castellari et al., DETERMINATION OF SORBIC AND BENZOIC-ACIDS IN FOODS WITH A COPOLYMER (DVB-H) HPLC COLUMN, Industrie alimentari, 36(359), 1997, pp. 606-610
A method is proposed for the determination of sorbic and benzoic acids
in yoghurt, nonalcoholic beverages and fruit juices using a hydrogen
sulfonated divinyl benzene-styrene copolymer (DVB-H) HPLC column. An i
socratic elution was carried out with 0.01N H2SO4:CH3CN (75:25), setti
ng the UV detector at 258 mm (sorbic acid) or 220 nm (benzoic acid). B
efore HPLC analysis the samples of yoghurt are treated with potassium
ferricyanide(III) and zinc sulfate, while nonalcoholic beverages and f
ruit juices are simply diluted, filtered and injected. The method show
ed a good precision and accuracy without interferences with other comp
onents of the samples.
